Ford Thunderbird 1965
Wait, what? A girl who has a penchant for cars? How outlandish!
But here’s the thing, I don’t. Not really.  I just want this car.

I spent today trying to decide on what I should write my first post about. It’s a big deal, it’s my first post. So, it should be a big deal. The biggest. I shouldn’t be writing about my ‘sort of’ love for retro cars. But that’s just it, maybe this should be the most random of all posts.

Therefore cars.

What makes this post even more random is I don’t drive. And Emma’s favourite, or least favourite, topic is Kim’s driving – which is not going anywhere.

The Ford Thunderbird, or T-bird, is Brad Pitt’s car if he were a business man from the 50s with a sporty wife and golden retriever. Or, If chino wearing brad isn’t your thing, it’s a car for the 90s snakeskin skirt queen with a penchant for long nails and Marlboros.

It was manufactured by the Ford Motor Company in the United States with over eleven model generations from 1955 through 2005. When introduced, it created the market niche eventually known as the personal luxury car.

Like, the first ever BMW or Mercedes car for the 50s. The type of car which wasn’t so expensive you had a chauffeur but not too cheap to take to the casinos. Obviously it was a car that said the owner has money, but they're not the big deal yet so ‘I still drive myself and I take my convertible to walk my dog in Miami’. Isn’t that the ultimate?

The model that’s my favourite is the 1965 Thunderbird. When this came out it was restyled in favour of a more squared-off appearance, which you could see when viewing the car from the side or rear. Even though it was the last year of the generation, 1965 saw a stylistic revision for the Thunderbird highlighted by a new egg-crate style grille with a large Thunderbird emblem at its centre. Nothing like an emblem to say ‘legit’
I love this car, I want this car. And even though it is as random as me getting a driver’s license, it’s definitely deserving of a space in my 99 things.

And thanks Geoff for the getting me onto cars at 11pm at night, while talking about drive-ins and girls in roller skates. You’re the best
Sleep well, and stay interested in things!
